The Space Between Our Hearts by Hannah Stone
This is a clean YA story written by a Christian author. (Featured image from author’s website.)
I enjoyed this poignant and sweet YA story! The themes of belonging and definition of true family and friends were super touching. Also loved how the characters learn to handle life when things don’t go according to their plans- something everyone deals with, and this book shows the consequences/blessings that come from it! The characters were so deep and dynamic! I do wish that the theme of finding home and belonging was not so banked on the romantic relationship. I would have loved to see more of that sense of belonging found in the other characters just a little more! I would also have loved to see some biblical faith themes connected to the characters’ struggles. But overall, a lovely YA story that may be extremely relatable to older teens and new adults.
Language: none, a couple replacement words.
Violence: none
Romance: sweet friendship to romantic relationship, a couple short, semi-detailed kisses, focuses on feelings more than physical. There is mention of one of their parents’ affair. It’s tactfully handled as part of the subplot, (Spoiler: as the boy realizes his friend is actually his half sister). I know some people aren’t comfortable reading about such problems an how broken marriages affect kids relationships, so I just wanted to touch on it in my review.
My age rating: 16+
How well this book fits my content guidelines: 9/10
I loved the depth of this book, but I do think it could be a little unrelatable for younger teens, as the characters are 18 and are outside of high school/dealing with things outside the majority of teen years. But I think it would be a wonderful book for older teens and new adults! This book releases February 5th, 2026 if you want to preorder a copy!
